Resources
E-geek uses some copyleft licensed materials on it's websites. These include:
- Silk Icons by Mark James.
- Some of our designs are based on themes from Open Source Web Design.
We strive to use Free and Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS). Software we use to build and host websites includes:
- The Gimp for raster image editing.
- Inkscape for vector images and layout.
- Drupal for a content management system for general websites.
- Wordpress for blogs.
- Mediawiki for wikis.
- Mailman for mailing lists.
- Apache for a web server.
- Postfix for a mail server.
- Debian linux for a web host operating system.
- Drupal themes on Themebot.
Other FLOSS we use includes:
- Firefox for web browsing.
- OpenOffice.org for documentation and as a general office suite.
- ClamAV for anti-virus.
- Linux/Kubuntu as an operating system, with the K Desktop Environment for just about everything else.
Of course, there are numerous other good open source programs available for these tasks, these are just the ones we prefer. If you decide to go it alone, we suggest you try out a number of different solutions before settling on one that suits you. Strength in diversity!
